Berkhamsted

A market town, Berkhamsted, England (/ˈbɜːrkəmstɛd/ BUR-kəm-sted) is close to Hertfordshire's western boundary. The Berkhamsted and Northchurch commons are on the northeast side of town, the largest in the Chilterns at 1,055 acres (427 ha), and through Frithsden and down to Potten End, forming an arc running from Northchurch. Between National Trust and Berkhamsted Golf Club, ownership of Berkhamsted Common is divided. A public school is Berkhamsted School.

Berkhamsted F.C., football club, play in the Football League that is Southern's Division One East, part of the English League's 8th Level (at Broadwater is the football ground of the town). Surrounded by countryside, much of it classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), are Berkhamsted and Northchurch. Beyond the medieval triangle and High Street, Georgian Berkhamsted barely extended. Founded in 1541 by John Incent, Dean of St Paul's Cathedral, the town is the location of Berkhamsted School, a co-educational boarding independent school, and Ashlyns School (state) whose history began as the Foundling Hospital in London by Thomas Coram in 1742.

The Berkhamsted workhouse, Nugent House, closed in 1935 and its function was relocated to Hemel Hemspstead. Part of a chalk downlands' system throughout England's east and south, Berkhamsted is 26 miles (42 km) northwest of London believed to have formed in the Cretaceous Period between 84 and 100 million years ago when the area was an environment of chalk-depositing marine. The first tier of government that represents the people to two higher tiers of local government, Dacorum Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council, as Berkhamsted has a town council. With the prices of different types of homes in Berkhamsted ranging from £273,760 for starter homes to £999,920 for family homes, with rents from £850 to £2,490 per calendar month, Berkhamsted was shown as the best place to live in southeast England in the Sunday Times 'Best Places to Live 2018' list.

With the Grand Union Canal on the right-hand side, Berkhamsted's railway station (1838) on the London and Birmingham Railway. First secretly gathering, they built in 1722 a chapel, and moved to their worship place on the High Street at the Ravens Lane junction in 1864, Berkhamsted's community that is Baptist, nationally making it one of the oldest dates from 1640. Clerk of works at Berkhamsted Castle from 1389, Geoffrey Chaucer based his Doctor of Phisick in The Canterbury Tales on John of Gaddesden, who lived in Little Gaddesden.

In 2015 it ran separate teams, Berkhamsted Cricket Club was founded in 1875 and competes in the Herts League. Recognised as the FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year at the 2014 Community of Football Association Awards that are English and awarded in 2015 the Grassroots UEFA Silver Award across the community for their work, Berkhamsted Raiders C.F.C. football club was founded in 1996. Bridgewater Road's pottery kiln includes evidence of activity in the area of Berkhamsted and occupation that is Roman-British. At Berkhamsted in December 1066, to William the Conqueror the Anglo-Saxons surrendered England's crown.
